  •  “What feels like the end is often the beginning.”

Given the challenges we all face in pursuing our goals and dreams, it’s common to find ourselves in need of motivation to keep moving forward. But there are also those times when you come to an even more difficult point in your journey, when what you really need is an affirmation to let go of your current life and begin a new one.
If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, then you know how much I love sharing quotes and affirmations that uplift and support others in their personal growth. Here are some of my favorites that have taught me to stay true to who I am and let go of the fear that comes with embarking on a new path.

“It’s never too late to be who you might have been.” – George Eliot
This quote always reassures me that no matter how old you are, or how many mistakes you’ve made along the way, you can always take the steps necessary to rediscover your true purpose in life.

“People are capable, at any time in their lives, of doing what they dream of.” — Paulo Coelho
This is a beautiful reminder that you have the capacity to do whatever you want with your life. Right now, actually. No need to wait for the “right time.”

“It is not wrong to go back to that which you have forgotten.”— West African proverb
Some people feel like once they’ve chosen a particular path, that they can never turn back. Not true! Once you realize that you’re not where you’re supposed to be, you can go back to that homeplace, that starting point that feels right to you.

“We attain freedom as we let go of whatever does not reflect our magnificence. A bird cannot fly high or far with a stone tied to its back. But release the impediment, and we are free to soar to unprecedented heights.” – Alan Cohen
This quote is an affirmation that nothing can hold you back unless YOU let it. The sky is the limit when you release what’s keeping you from moving forward.

“The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide you’re not going to stay where you are.” — John Pierpont Morgan
It doesn’t take this big, grand display of courage to make a change in your life. Sometimes, all you need to do is make the decision that you WILL begin exploring a new path.

“We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come.” – Joseph Campbell
One of the biggest challenges to making progress with something new is not being able to LET GO of the old. This quote is a great reminder that when you try to keep one foot in the familiar as a Plan B, you never give yourself a chance to really succeed at Plan A.

“If you have made mistakes, even serious ones, there is always another chance for you. What we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down.” — Mary Pickford
Sometimes life gives us a second chance, but we’re too ashamed to take it. Instead of holding on to your past mistakes, accept the truth that there’s something better waiting for you when you let go.

“Every one of us is called upon, probably many times, to start a new life. A frightening diagnosis, a marriage, a move, loss of a job. And onward full tilt we go, pitched and wrecked and absurdly resolute, driven in spite of everything to make good on a new shore. To be hopeful, to embrace one possibility after another – that is surely the basic instinct . . . Crying out: High tide! Time to move out into the glorious debris. Time to take this life for what it is.” – Barbara Kingslover
At some point, we all need to take a moment to step back and consider whether the highway we’ve been driving on for years still leads to the ultimate destination we want for our lives. If it doesn’t, it might be time to get off at the next exit and start doing something else!

    1. Always remember that your present situation is not your final destination. The best is yet to come.

  • You don’t have to have everything figured out right now. Simply breathe, enjoy the journey, and don’t take life so seriously. As long as you put in the effort and believe in yourself, you’ll get where you want to be.

    2. Sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives put us directly on the path to the best things that will ever happen to us

  • .

Above all else, when you feel lost in life, keep your faith in yourself and believe in the universe. Suffering only takes place when we need to learn something from it, and darkness is necessary so that we may appreciate the light. You’ll find your way – just keep going and don’t let false thoughts discourage you.

Simple Steps to go from being a DREAMER to a DOER

All of us have a dream. We can call it many different things: wishes, aspirations, or ambitions but ultimately they mean the same thing – the goal of a lifetime that we dream of achieving.
However, only very few of us are able to achieve them. We give in to the environment, to the challenges of ‘reality’, to our own insecurities. Because of that, we give up on our dreams.
How many of us are real, true doers? And, if we aren’t, how do we become doers instead of just dreamers?

1. Write down goals and give them a deadline

Say you want to write a novel and have it ready to submit to an agent or publishing house. That’s awesome – but how far along are you? What do you define as “submission ready”? How long can you write per day, and is it scheduled into your routine just like work or going to the gym?

  • Pick a deadline for being submission ready (less than two years out), or schedule mini-deadlines, such as two chapters written by month’s end. This goes for any kind of goal, not just novel-writing.

    2. Plan (and do) what needs to be done

Every time you decide you want to do something, follow that up with a list of steps you need to take to make it happen. This might mean saving a certain amount of money, or completing a certain number of push-ups.
Budget your hours, plan your expenses, and make sure you’re doing what needs to be done as much as what you want to do.

    3. Surround yourself with doers

Birds of a feather flock together. Who are your five best friends? Dreamers feed off of each other, but if you’re around doers they will inspire you.
The staunchest ones aren’t quick to indulge your dreamer tendencies and will want to know what your plan is. Remember: you are in charge of your support network.

    4. Change what doesn’t work

There is a saying about the definition of insanity. Don’t dream about achieving something by doing the same things that you have been doing if there are no positive results. Stop, reassess, figure out what’s wrong and try a fresh approach.
It’s good to learn from mistakes, but you’ll never get anywhere making the same mistakes over and over again.

    5. Assume everything will take longer and cost more

One of the biggest pitfalls of dreamers is that they think that everything is much easier to do than it realistically is. However, that is almost never the case.
When writing down your action plan, increase time and money by ten percent and give yourself a buffer. The worst case scenario is you’ll succeed with time and money left over.
While being a doer is definitely a requirement to achieve your dream, don’t ever forget the dreamer. It is  your source of inspiration and the reason why you are a doer in the first place.
One of the constant things I see online is the idea that the bigger you go, the better results you get in life.
For example, if you want to reach your dreams, you need to quit your job and go full-time on your vision.
If you want to be a writer, you need to start crafting your best-seller and build your audience now.
If you want to live your dreams of travelling the world, you need to become a digital nomad.
In essence, if you want to do anything in life, you need to go big or go home. You need to go all-in if you want something and you need to risk it all if you want to have a chance of ‘making it’ in this world.
The thing is, none of this helps. Because in reality, these are fantasies peddled to us by people we think are living our dreams. They aren’t steeped in reality, so how are they supposed to become real in our lives?
If you want to follow your dreams, then you need to embrace the much-less sexy truths about following your dreams. Here there are.

The Real Nitty-Gritty Truths About Following Your Dreams Are Unsexy

The truth is, most of the things that will get you closer to becoming a better writer aren’t ‘sexy’ by any sense of the word.
Becoming a best-seller isn’t about being flashy. Instead, it’s about building the right connections and a body of work to support you as you reach out to publishers and write and grind day-in and day-out on a dream you believe in more than anyone else. If you’re creating the novel of your dreams, and willing — really willing — to put in the work you need to succeed, you’re never really going to know if it’s all going to work in the end or not.
The only thing you know as a reality is that you’re here to conquer your mountain anyways, and damned to anyone who stands in your way while you try to do it.
But persistence in the heat of the moment is never sexy. It never looks as good as we feel it should, and it never feels as good as we think. It is only months or even years down the road of persistence and untenable and unrelenting grit that we begin to realize the value of the gifts we have inside.
In that way, we as writers are like brick-layers who lay down bricks time and time again, hoping they’ll turn into something great and beautiful and with a strong foundation to stand on and look nice in the end, but we can never really be sure they’ll turn out great in the moment. Sure, we have a blueprint to follow our dreams, but we can never truly be certain they’ll turn out great until we finish them or even get 25% or even 50% of the way there.
Even with a blueprint to follow the footpaths of others, most of the time we creatives and entrepreneurs are still stumbling around in the dark, hoping we are doing it right and desperate to avoid others from ‘finding us out’.

How You Deal With the Impasses To Your Success Will Define You

Your creative journey will be full of rocks and bumps ahead, and how you choose to deal with the challenges and obstacles that come your way will define you.
Let’s get real for a moment: your “success” will never look as good as you want it to feel.
In truth, it will be messy and complicated and fraught with challenges where when you see them, you’ll want to immediately give up. And how you choose to deal with these challenges will help you define your way forward as you keep going no matter what (or quit in the heat of it all).
Success in our lives never looks as great as it ought to feel. Success on an every day basis looks like publishing a new blog post or making $10 or visiting one new city. It’s never starts out as flashy as you’d think.
Many of us think reaching an ideal level of success will give us everything we’ve ever wanted — yet it never will for us, because we’ve blown it out of proportion into a scale that is so far beyond our scope of thought that it can never truly live up to its reputation.
I mean, how could it? How could our reality ever live up to our ideals in the end? How could our heroes ever match up to the pictures we have in our minds?
In Game of Thrones, one character talks to one of his heroes about his bravery, and realized he wasn’t really brave at all.

You Will Probably Never Feel Ready. Do It Anyways

You’ve heard it before: waiting to feel ready is a loser’s game. Your success will not be defined by what you did when you were prepared and ‘ready’, but by what you chose to do anyway, even though you were scared to death of it all.
The truth is, most of the things in life that make us successful in our creative pursuits are inherently unsexy. They are things like putting in the work every single day after working an exhausting shift at work. They are reading a book on a crowded subway. They are going to sleep early so we can get a great start on the next day. And they are on the surface, boring.
Putting in the work every day is neither sexy or flashy, yet the reward is something greater. Reaching your dreams doesn’t involve quitting your job and hoping the revenue will magically come in. No, it involves building up your thing on the side and not quitting your job before you find a revenue to replace the one you currently have. Because consistently putting in the work time and time again nets you with a greater reward than you could possibly imagine right now.
And if you ever want to reach your vision and dream life, you better get comfortable with putting in the work when you don’t feel like doing it. Because if you don’t, then you’ll never accomplish the great work you know you could.

How to use 'dream boards' to create your own success

When you begin a new endeavor, whether it’s starting a new job, starting a company, or setting personal goals, what are your dreams and aspirations?
As you look toward your future, it’s important to recognize on what you focus. What is your goal? You’ll need to know your target so you can decide if your behavior needs altering.
One way that I motivate my team and myself is by using "dream boards."
A dream board is a visual reminder showcasing your goals for the next year — or even five to 10 years. Writing down your dreams is a key trait of successful people. Even Oprah does it. Studies show that when you write down your dreams, they are more likely to come true.
In fact, I created a giant dream board — 10 feet wide — in my office with items I checked off my list and goals I hope to achieve both personally and professionally.
    Previously, I added goals like:

    • Making the company debt-free, which my team achieved in 2009.

    • Moving the company’s headquarters 1,200 miles to a destination location, which we achieved in 2011.

    • Opening a world-class corporate headquarters on a marina that embodies our culture of friendships, fun, and freedom, which we achieved in 2014.

    • Earning a spot on the Inc. 500 List for the fastest-growing private companies in America for three consecutive years, which we achieved in 2015,

    • Buying an island as a corporate and personal retreat, which we accomplished in 2015.

Here are five items you need to consider to ensure your dreams become reality:

    1. Start now

Don’t give away any more days or time — you’ve already lost yesterday, last week and last month. Make your dream board today. You can either put your dreams in list form with boxes to check off or release your inner child by cutting out or printing images of your dreams and attaching them to your board so you can view them.

    2. Review last year

What did you or your company accomplish over the last year? Where did you come up short? What exceeded your expectations? Set your goals for the next year based on the last year.

    3. Take your dreams in steps

Don’t be afraid to dream big, and remember to take your dreams in steps. Create a list with goals and dreams and put it somewhere visible, on the fridge or your bathroom mirror, as a daily reminder. Write down goals that may be attained within a month and some that are long-term. You are the deciding factor in what gets accomplished today, tomorrow and in the future!

    4. Make it a company effort

How many companies get together with their teams and dream? Ensure your company’s success by getting your team involved and invested in the company’s future. Give your team members and employees an opportunity to voice where they want the company to go. Whether it’s taking the company debt-free or signing a certain number of new clients, dream big; don’t dream small!

    5. Encourage others

Encourage and motivate your employees to make their own dream boards. If your employees are making positive changes at home and reaching goals, they are often more excited at work.
We are visual people. Dream boards help us visualize our dreams and goals. If you didn’t achieve one of your goals, ask yourself: Did I take the action steps necessary to achieve it?
One of my favorite quotes is from Jim Rohn, "If you really want to do something, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse."
Don’t be afraid of change. Achieving your dreams often means change, which isn’t hurtful; rather, it’s something that must happen to allow for success.
Draw a line in the sand to create a legacy for your future — for your kids — and make a commitment to dream big so that you can achieve greatness, too.

If you tend to dream big in life, there’s a good chance you’ll face voices of dissent.

Even from well-meaning family, friends and colleagues. Tragically though, the most damaging voice of dissent often comes from within ourselves.
It’s our own self-doubt that we don’t have what it takes that can really destroy us. It’s the fear that we’ll lose steam and won’t reach the finish line.

How can I become a successful entrepreneur?

Money can’t buy you happiness’ is a popular saying that most people live by. But we believe that money can buy you a Lamborghini, and that’s undoubtedly going to bring a certain amount of happiness in your life. Regardless of how you see the world, money is extremely important to everyone and so we’ve decided to follow the steps of the Millionaires and Billionaires around the world to try and create a list of things to follow.
    1. Trends can be Goldmines
Trends will come and go, but it’s up to you to jump on them and capitalize as much as you can before they inevitably become irrelevant. The people who act first and make quick and smart decisions are the ones who will make quick money of these trends.
    2. Predict the Future
One of the most difficult things to do is to be a visionary and in the business world, the one who can predict the future is the one who will shape its very existence. Being a visionary means predicting what the world will need 5 to 10 years from now and beginning development for that product in the present.
A perfect example of this would be the world’s richest man, Jeff Bezos. He predicted that one day the world would move to online buying and thus decided to quit a safe and comfortable job on wall street and took a risk, starting his business Amazon in 1994. It took Amazon 7 years to register profit but now, almost 25 years later, it is one of the biggest and most profitable companies in the world.
    3. Sacrifice
Probably the most difficult thing to do as teenager or even an adult is to sacrifice your leisure time and spend it efficiently. If you really want it, then put down the video games, stop wasting time watching brainless sitcoms and start reading or working jobs to make money. Whenever you do something, ask yourself, “will this really benefit me in the future?”. If it takes you more than a couple of seconds to answer that question, then stop doing it.

    4. Save and Invest
Stop spending money on useless things and start re-investing any money or profits you make.
The biggest mistake people make is they spend their money or store it in a bank rather than investing it in blue chip company or in a long term mutual fund. As a person under the age of 30 you should keep unused funds in a place where they will keep growing, like the stock market, rather than a bank where the premium isn’t worth the ‘safety’. Above all that, rather than spending your birthday money on a new expensive IPhone, be smart and invest half of it in the stock market. Stop SAVING, start INVESTING.
    5. Risk & Failure
One of the biggest fears for entrepreneurs are the risks. You have to be able to take calculated risks if you want to succeed in life. This doesn’t mean you take mindless risks without rational brainstorming but it does mean leaving your comfort zone and making decisions that you probably wouldn’t want to make. Some people have risked it all and lost everything, but they haven’t let that stop them from achieving their goals. The biggest failure is the failure to learn from your mistakes. We take risks, we don’t succeed, we fail but then most importantly we get back up and try again. Repeating this process is necessary because it’s only after failing multiple times do we truly value the feeling of success.
In conclusion, I hope this article helps you on your path to greatness and wealth. While it is true that money isn’t the most important thing in the world, it definitely is one of the most important and it’s necessary to keep that in mind. Don’t let the greed for money consume you and push others away, instead keep wanting more from this world and stay hungry for success. Let your passion and desire drive you to succeed at whatever it is you may attempt.
Many new entrepreneurs are overwhelmed with new things they have to handle. They tend to find themselves lost in the new world they find themselves in. If an entrepreneur wants to make a success of his/her business, it is important to define business goals. Goals should be evaluated every so often as the business grows.
To become a successful entrepreneur you need to follow these entrepreneurship goals examples.

    Actively seek out like-minded individuals
Being an entrepreneur has many benefits, but feeling connected with others isn't usually one of them. An entrepreneur works in hours alone and has his/her idea that others might think is unachievable. There are many haters out in the world who would want to make an entrepreneur feel bad about his/her work out of envy. This feeling of isolation can severely impact productivity and personal health.
Make sure to make a point to connect with like-minded individuals actively.

    Launch the First Product
Make sure to launch a minimal viable product (MVP) first to get customers feedbacks as soon as possible. There is always time to go back and change the MVP after customers' feedbacks.

    Increase Sales
Of course, any entrepreneur wants to grow the sales and revenue for his/her business-- but what is a reasonable growth rate? Some say that a meager 15% increase per year is worth celebrating. In fact, in 5 years, that annual 15% growth rate would mean that the business has doubled. Rather than shooting for rapid growth rates, work toward slow and steady increases in sales that allow the company to grow safely.
Growing too quickly can be a dangerous game but if done correctly, it could be very rewarding.

    Cut Problem Clients Loose
Not all money is good money. Don't waste previous time and resources on managing and catering to demanding customers and clients. An entrepreneur should always look at the big picture during customer acquisition. Sure, a customer who is willing to pay top dollar for your services is great, but if they are going to be high-maintenance, that extra money may not be worth it. Firing problem clients will free up more time to focus on other customers- the ones who respect your time and boundaries.

Make Time for Personal Growth and Learning
Continuous learning is the minimum requirement for success in any field. There will never come the point, no matter how successful one is, when learning and growing won't be beneficial. This doesn't mean that everyone should be in school at all times, but one should attend conferences and workshops, read books, insightful blogs, and industry publications as regularly as possible. While it is certainly important to stay on top of industry knowledge and news, make sure personal growth isn't neglected. It is never too late to learn a new hobby or develop a new interest, both of which can contribute to a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle.
Setting goals is an integral part of choosing the business that is right for you. After all, if your business doesn't meet your personal goals, you probably won't be happy waking up each morning to try to make the business successful. No matter if your personal goal is the freedom to do what you want, or financial security, setting a business goal for it will be helpful to attain those goals.

Meanwhile, the following traits tend to make entrepreneurs, and they’re responsible for ongoing professional success.
    1. Not Being Afraid of Risks
Some of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs took risks. These risks, while calculated, tended to pay off well.
When most people hear “risk,” however, they shy away from any investment opportunity.
Successful entrepreneurs don’t wait for opportune situations. They identify possible avenues and keep hopping to the next-possible option.
    2. Wanting to Learn
Where education is considered, successful entrepreneurs typically crave information.
A successful businessperson, in general, is constantly learning. As businesses change and evolve, being able to adapt alongside incoming information matters.
You might always have competition, but your ability to chase education will determine your ongoing success.
    3. Continuing After Experiencing Failure
Beginning entrepreneurs will constantly face failure.
Unfortunately, failure is a secret ingredient to success.
Some of the best ideas arise from failure, and successful entrepreneurs are highly skilled at making everything a resource—even broken projects, career paths and experiences.
    4. Passion
Passion is probably the entrepreneur’s most powerful tool. To succeed in your field, you need to thoroughly enjoy it.
At the end of the day, every work direction will turn into a job. If you don’t have passion, you might get swallowed by the day-to-day grind of work.
Fortunately, passion can be maintained via a healthy lifestyle. You’ll need to generate your own passion, and you’ll need to make sure you’re healthy enough to maintain it.
    5. Networking
As they say, a big part of success is who you know, rather than what you know.
You’ll need to learn how to create value-based relationships, and you’ll need to stay truly meaningful to your network’s success.
Remember: Relationships are two-way streets. Your relationships should be mutually exclusive, and you should constantly add value to everyone you meet.
    6. Self-Promotion
Similar to networking, self-promotion is a skill which relies on consistency, social skills and care.
"The world’s most successful entrepreneurs self-promoted a lot, and they’ve experienced a lot of fallbacks in search of their own success."
Self-promotion is an essential part of self-marketing, and it’s vital to long-term success in the business world.
Entrepreneurs are flexible individuals, capable of adapting to a variety of situations while also sticking to their fundamental plans.
To be successful, you need to be decisive but also be willing to change.
Whether you’re dealing with a product idea or shareholder investments, the same qualities you foster early on will contribute to your long-term success.
Stay active in your network, allocate your funds wisely and draw out a dedicated fiscal plan.
Above all: Don’t be afraid to abandon old ideas. While it’s important to “stay on track,” you shouldn’t suffer defeat because you’re hanging on to outdated initiatives.
Over time, your contacts, hard work, creativity and resolve to achieve success will result in success. You can always gain new traits as a g...

Here I have found some of the biggest trends in their business advice:

    • Business ideas alone are worth very little. If you want to start a business and become successful with it, you need to solve meaningful problems. Execution is everything in business.

    • Don’t just start a blog (or any type of business) unless you’ll be doing something you truly love and are good at, or unless you can dedicate yourself to becoming that expert over the coming years.

    • Becoming successful in business is more about your mentality, psychology and determination than it is about finding little tips, tricks, hacks and exploitations in the marketplace.

    • Start today. The only true way to learn is by doing and you can’t afford to sit around waiting for funding, hoping someone else will come along to help you execute on your idea or complain that you don’t have the time. Making excuses won’t help you start a business and it sure as hell won’t help you create the lifestyle you want for yourself.

    • Launch before you feel ready. If you wait until your product or service feels perfect, someone else will already be doing a better job of helping your customers solve their problems. Validate your business idea by launching fast, bringing on a small group of paying customers and adapting to make your solution great for them over time. You’ll learn how to validate ideas quickly & cheaply in my course, 30 Days to Validate.

    • How you choose to manage your time and decide which opportunities to pursue will greatly impact your success when starting a business. Outsource everything you can, so that you can focus on doing what only you can do in your business.

    • Do everything in your power to avoid spending money when you start a business. Build a lean solution that provides value to your customers and only spend money on the absolute essentials at the moment you need them.

    • Never stop building meaningful relationships with customers and other people in your industry. Choosing to instead view competitors as potential partners and collaborators can positively impact your business in a big way.

    • Focus on setting & achieving small incremental goals rather than trying to start a business and instantly build your vision of what the company should be in the years to come. Setting realistic goals and milestones is a major component of my course, The Launch Formula.

    • And much, much more…

Whether you want to start a business for the first time or you’re an experienced entrepreneur, you’ll find incredible value in the best business advice and success tips these entrepreneurs have to share today—some of them even made their way over to my list of the best motivational quotes I’ve heard.

How do I start a business from scratch with no money, no credit and no expert friends to help?

You stop thinking of all the roadblocks and start hunting for opportunity.

Successful business owners often just start.  They don't think about all the stuff that will get in their way.  Entrepreneurs tend to be stubborn, impulsive, doers.  They do first, then figure things out, and repeat often.

    Clueless on My First Try
The first business I tried was a real estate company.

    • I'd never started a business.

    • Never bought property before.

    • Had a real estate license that the ink hadn't even dried on yet (I took the classes because I wanted to learn more about property maybe to buy some, not sell some).

    • Hadn't ever talked to real estate agents before my real estate class.

I just got tired of my good paying job as a manager of a small software development group and quit.  I had to do something and I figured I'd have a go at selling houses for a living.

    • So I found a real estate sales trainer, spent a few hundred bucks on a week long class, and I did what they told me to.

    • I made a list of everyone I knew (one of your greatest resources are the people you know).

    • I wrote them all a letter and said, "I'm selling real estate now.  If you know of anyone I should talk to, let me know."

    • I called them all personally to chat.

    • Sure enough, I started selling houses and was in the top few percent in sales volume within a year.

    • Then I started hiring people, first an assistant, then buyer's agents.  I had no idea how to hire people or do payroll so sought out accountants, interviewed a bunch, asked a lot of questions, read books, took a class, and figured it out.

Less Clueless on My Second Try
I got tired of selling houses for a living after around 6 years, and spent the little money I made from selling a tiny, few person real estate company living on the beach for 6 months.

Then a friend of mine, a brilliant programmer, calls me up and says, "I'm bored at work."  So I say, "No shit?  I don't even have a job.  How about you buy a one way ticket out here, we live on a sailboat for a week, and start a company together?"  So he says, "Why not."  So then together we say, "What kind of business should we start?"  And he says, "How about web design?"  And then I say, "I've never build a website.  Sounds like fun."

That was 7 years ago when we started Dolphin Micro.  To get that one off the ground:

    • I bought books on HTML, CSS, Javascript, MySQL, and PHP for dummies, read them all, and built all the sample projects 8 hours a day for weeks on end.

    • My new partner and I both made lists of everyone we knew, sent a letter, called them, and sure enough, found clients almost right away.

    • We started with $1500 projects for friends and grew the company to 22 people and $1.7M in annual revenue doing projects as big as $800k for companies like AT&T, Hess Oil, Dupont, and Wired Magazine.

Neither company would have gotten off the ground had I made lists of all the things I didn't have.  They started because I made lists of all the things I did have and figured out how to use those resources to build a business.

If you really want to start a company, look for opportunity and take action, lots of action.  Starting a company is dangerous.  Thing will constantly go wrong, it won't always be fun, and you might not succeed.  You will, however, learn a lot about business, finance, people, and yourself along the way, and you might even make a little money too :-)
I’ve said it time and time again: Entrepreneurship is hard and it’s not for everyone. If, after taking a realistic personal inventory of who you are and what you want to be doing, it turns out that you are ready to take the next steps in starting a business, I want to discuss the advice I always give to first-time entrepreneurs.
    1. BE PRACTICAL ABOUT YOUR MONEY
The first and most important thing that I tell new entrepreneurs is the importance of practicality when it comes to money. I’m blown away by all the “entrepreneurs” who start businesses and at launch, don’t realize the importance of generating money and how to manage profits. Instead of focusing on the present financial needs and building an actual company, they are too busy thinking about how much money they’ll be making four years from now. It’s a complete lack of practicality.
Cash is oxygen. How much money do you have to stay afloat and for how long? Do you have one year’s worth of rent and overhead? First-time entrepreneurs always make this mistake and it’s my biggest concern for them. You have to make sure your actions can respond to the bleeding of cash that occurs before you even turn a profit.
I often see first-time entrepreneurs making one of two mistakes at the start:
    (1) They do not have a funded business and haven’t raised venture capital (or any other capital). They only have six months worth of money to make their business goal come true.
While they dream up every perfect scenario that will allow them to achieve their dream, by the third day of being “entrepreneurs,” the realization hits that nothing goes perfectly and they run out of cash.
    (2) They are so well funded that they don’t build up the necessary muscle to generate revenue. They are so used to the idea that losing $150,000 in burn rate is “fine” because they have a funded company. Most of their attention and behavior is focused on raising their next round instead of building an actual, profitable business.
No matter the situation, starting a new business, particularly one that requires an upfront financial investment and not just your time, drains money. You need to understand financially what it takes in order to pay for necessities like rent, supplies, and inventory (and that doesn’t even include your personal expenses). A high level of practicality is necessary for success.
    2. REALIZE THAT BUILDING A BUSINESS IS A HUGE TIME COMMITMENT
The next thing I remind first-time entrepreneurs is that by starting a business, you have made a decision that does not allow you any time, in your first year, to do anything but build your business. No more binge watching Game of Thrones. You are not allowed to watch The #AskGaryVee Show going forward (maybe…). No more late night parties with your friends. You are in such a Code Red zone that every minute (let’s call it 18 hours a day if you want this to be successful), needs to be allocated for your business. This even includes time with your family. It’s a substantial sacrifice and you have to realize the level of commitment that is required.
However, if you have this ambition of building a business, you have to make this mental commitment. Then any time you have for family or leisure time is an added bonus. In fact, you have to ask yourself how big of a business you are actually trying to build. The bigger the business, the more years you’ll need to tack onto year one.
    3. HOLD YOURSELF TO YOUR WORD
One of best pieces of business advice I’ve ever received (and one that I try to impart on anyone entering the business world) is that your word is bond. My dad told me this at an early age and it has shaped how I’ve conducted business ever since. He told me once that if I commit to buying 100 cases of wine for the store, and I change my mind the week before it arrives, that I would have to drink all of it because I made the commitment.
If you make a commitment, no matter what happens, you have to deliver. Not only is your business’s brand at stake, but your personal brand and reputation too. Poor business decisions could put your status as an entrepreneur at risk.
    Your word is bond.
While the sources vary, it’s often stated that most businesses will fail within the first 18 months. The number one reason why I think so many businesses fail so quickly is because they don’t realize how hard it is, how “all in” you have to be, and how much talent it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. I’m not promising that following this advice will guarantee your business will survive the first year, but without these considerations, you are not setting yourself up for success.
Starting a business require proper planning.
Your first step is to explore what it takes to formally build a business, where I have come up with a list for you to follow below:

    • Planning. You’ll need to come up with a business plan and financial model, but you can do this on your own, for free.

    • Business license. If you’re planning on creating a partnership, LLC or corporation, you’ll need to file some paperwork -- but it probably won’t cost you more than a few hundred dollars, depending on what licensing you need.

    • A domain name. You’ll need to invest in your online brand early on; while I suggest going as professional as possible, you could also use a bare-bones approach to launch, if yours is a minimum viable product.

    • A website. Website builders these days are free and intuitive to use. You won't expend anything but time to build your first site. I recommend starting simple with a widely-used website platform, like Wordpress.

    • Marketing. While marketing has a reputation for being very expensive, there are actually a ton of really effective tactics that can be performed with only an investment of your time. Social media marketing, SEO and content marketing all fit within this category -- and, honestly, those are really all you need.

    • Equipment. Equipment, offices and other tangible assets are cash killers, but not all businesses need them. Some businesses do not require any of these things.

    • Products. Finally, all businesses need to sell something, which usually means some up-front investing. However, many services can be performed with an investment of time rather than money.

In addition, note that you can’t really earn money for free online without putting in the hard work.

    1. Affiliate marketing - requires a site with healthy streams of traffic for you to be able to convert that traffic into sales. This is a great way to earn money. By referring a customer, you will earn commission but choose a reputable company which pays out your commissions on time.

    2. Stay away from Bitcoin - it is controversial for a reason and many traders have shunned the cryptocurrency. Many countries are now beginning to introduce measures to halt extensive trading of the virtual currency.

    3. The simplest thing you can do to earn cash without spending a penny is by doing paid surveys. Find out which are the more popular paid surveys websites, and then get the momentum going. However, beware of fake websites and companies as there are many paid survey scams.

    4. Follow your passion.

There must be a richness about the life of a person who keeps a diary, unknown to other men. And a million more little links and ties must bind him to the members of his family circle, and to all among whom he lives.
